Family and parental responsibilities

Separation or divorce, who the children live with and how they keep in touch with the other parent, asking for or reviewing child maintenance, and the rights of unmarried partners living together. Where there are children, and if both parents agree, the lawyer can work with the firm's clinical psychologist.

Inheritance and succession

A relative has died and you need to know who inherits, divide the assets, unblock an estate that has been stuck for years or challenge a will. Many estates are divided by agreement between the heirs. When they cannot agree, the route is a court process called an inventory (inventário).

Criminal law

You have been made a formal suspect (arguido), received a notice to attend questioning or a trial, or you were the victim of a crime and want to report it. We defend suspects and accused persons and support victims. If there has been an arrest or a hearing is already scheduled, say so in your first contact.

Property and planning

You are buying or selling a home, a tenant is not paying, a landlord wants the property back, or building work has gone wrong. In property, most of the useful work happens before anything is signed.

Civil liability and compensation

You suffered a loss because of another person or a company, in an accident, in building work or through a badly provided service, and you want compensation, including for the distress caused. Much of the work lies in calculating the damage and proving what caused it.

Medical law

There was an error in a treatment or an operation, you were not told about the risks before you consented, or a hospital will not hand over your medical records. These cases turn on reports by medical specialists, and those depend on the medical records that can be gathered.

You are setting up a company in Portugal, need a contract with clients or suppliers reviewed, disagree with a business partner, have unpaid invoices or want regular legal support. Most of the work happens before there is a dispute. We work with Portuguese and foreign companies.
